Following their end-of-season collapse, Dave Nonis told TSN Radio 1050 that hes looking to get the Leafs back to where they were two seasons ago when the team broke their seven-year playoff drought. The GM said the additions of Leo Komarov, Stephane Robidas and Roman Polak were made with the expectation that the veterans would set an on-ice example of the way the Leafs want their top players to compete. “Those players can generate a lot of emotion and they can bring players into the fight with them, and thats what we had two years ago and we need to get it back this year,” Nonis said. Despite the addition of two defencemen, Nonis said he wasnt overly concerned about his back-ends overall talent level, but felt like their fit as a group of six wasnt ideal. “We wanted to change the way we played the game. With Robidas and Roman, youre talking about guys who play very very hard and the compete-level of those guys is a big part of their game and we think itll rub off with the rest of our group.” Besides the players he did sign and acquire, Nonis also weighed in on the loss of centre Dave Bolland, and the Josh Gorges situation, in which the veteran blueliner accepted a deal to the Sabres after vetoing a trade that would have sent him to Toronto. “We did put a significant offer on the table for him,” Nonis said of the Bolland negotiations. “We felt it was reflective of his value to us, where he should be paid and there was another team that felt like he should be paid more.” On Gorges: “I may find that odd, but thats his choice and hes earned that right.” To round out his roster, Nonis mentioned he is still in the market for forward depth, pointing out the Leafs are looking to put an emphasis on increasing the reliance on their fourth line. “Your third and fourth lines have to contribute,” Nonis said, adding that he recognizes the leagues top teams use their fourth line for between eight and 12 minutes a game in order to lighten the load on top-end players and prevent them from wearing down. In addition to possible future free agent additions, Nonis speculated Josh Leivo, David Broll and possibly Sam Carrick could challenge for a roster spots up front next season, while on the back-end, Petter Granberg and Stuart Percy could work their way into the mix. Addressing the rumours surrounding back-up goaltender James Reimer, Nonis said he is fielding offers for the 26-year-old, but if a deal cant be reached expects him to be ready for the start of camp. “If theres a deal that makes sense for us to move James Reimer, and makes us better and gives us assets that are reflective of what he is, which is a goaltender who has been a no. 1, who could challenge for a no. 1 here, then youll look to do it,” Nonis said. “But its difficult finding quality goaltenders. We think he is one and I would expect if there isnt a deal that makes sense that he would come to camp in the best shape that he could possibly be in with the mindset to play in as many games as he can.” Nonis: Leafs looking to increase compete-level Cheap Titans Jerseys Authentic . It has all of the ingredients: jumps, technical sections, gliding. At 6-foot-4 (1.93 metres) and 215 pounds (98 kilograms), Nymans big, muscular legs are well equipped to deal with the constant leaping and landing that often make skiers look like deer as they navigate their way down through the forest. The key to this course is getting back to the ground as quickly as possible. I have long shock absorbers and that helps a great deal, Nyman, who grew up in Sundance, Utah, said in an interview with The Associated Press.Thin snow cover this year prompted organizers to cancel Thursdays second training session to help preserve the course. Also, the super-G and downhill were flip-flopped, pushing the super-G back to Saturday. They cant groom the piste and make it perfectly smooth, so theres a lot of natural stuff, micro terrain and a lot of bumps, Nyman said. The camel jumps are maybe the biggest theyve ever been.Another win would move Nyman within one of the race record of four shared by Austrian legend Franz Klammer and Italian great Kristian Ghedina.Nyman enters in solid form following a third-place result in Beaver Creek, Colorado, this month.Thats a big step up from last season, when his best result was 19th in Lake Louise, Alberta. Nyman has had to deal with back, knee and Achilles tendon injuries in recent seasons but hes fully healthy now.ddddddddddddPhysically I feel really, really good, Nyman said. Last year I felt good, too, but my equipment didnt feel right. So after last season I threw everything out and started over with my ski technician. We downsized my boots, worked on new plates, new bindings — new everything. And now weve gotten to the point where Im feeling really comfortable and I like it.Confident enough that the 32-year-old Nyman is wondering if he could challenge for the season-long World Cup downhill title. With the likes of Aksel Lund Svindal, Bode Miller and Erik Guay — who won this downhill last season — out injured, he sees an opening.Sochi bronze medallist Kjetil Jansrud of Norway won the opening two downhills this season but he trailed Nyman by 0.19 seconds in Wednesdays training.Ive got a lot of knowledge of the courses and I feel like I can push my ranking higher and maybe even go after a title, Nyman said.Nyman slipped to the U.S. squads B team for this season, meaning he had to pay $20,000 out of his own pocket to race the World Cup. Fortunately, some U.S. Ski Team trustees stepped in and helped him out financially.Teammate Marco Sullivan is in the same situation. Its been tough on athletes of our calibre. But weve figured it out, Nyman said. Its brought awareness to the team.Sullivan has finished fourth and fifth in Val Gardena but never made the podium. Coming off a fifth-place result in Lake Louise, hes also got momentum. With former U.S womens head coach Alex Hoedlmoser taking over the mens speed team for this season, theres a new vibe within the squad. He busts his butt on the hill to create great training for us and we really respect that, Nyman said. And with Pete Anderson, Scotty Veenis and Chris Beckmann as assistant coaches, we all respect each other. Theyre all my age and were good buddies for life. Its fun and were all fired up.___Andrew Dampf can be followed at http://www.twitter.com/asdampf Cheap Buffalo Sabres Gear Wholesale Calgary Flames Jerseys Cheap Adidas Colorado Avalanche Jerseys Montreal Canadiens Outlet Store Wholesale New Jersey Devils Jerseys Adidas Arizona Coyotes Jerseys Cheap Adidas Boston Bruins Jerseys Cheap Adidas Carolina Hurricanes Jerseys Chicago Blackhawks Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Columbus Blue Jackets Jerseys Dallas Stars Shop Free Shipping Cheap Adidas Detroit Red Wings Jerseys Anaheim Ducks Jerseys China Wholesale Edmonton Oilers Jerseys Florida Panthers Shop Free Shipping Wholesale Los Angeles Kings Jerseys Minnesota Wild Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Nashville Predators Jerseys Cheap Adidas New York Islanders Jerseys New York Rangers Winter Classic Jerseys Cheap Adidas Ottawa Senators Jerseys Cheap Adidas Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys Wholesale Pittsburgh Penguins Jerseys Cheap Adidas San Jose Sharks Jerseys St. Louis Blues Winter Classic Jerseys Wholesale Tampa Bay Lightning Jerseys Toronto Maple Leafs Outlet Store Vancouver Canucks Outlet Store Cheap Adidas Vegas Golden Knights Jerseys Cheap Adidas Washington Capitals Jerseys Cheap Adidas Winnipeg Jets Jerseys ' ' '
