Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Lou Williams scored 26 points off the bench to help the Toronto Raptors send the Indiana Pacers to another loss with a 106-94 decision on Friday. James Johnson notched 13 points in a reserve role, while Jonas Valanciunas and Greivis Vasquez added 10 points apiece with the former grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds in the win. Toronto has won three straight at Air Canada Centre. The Pacers lost their seventh straight game overall and their sixth straight on the road. Solomon Hill netted 16 points to lead Indiana. Rodney Stuckey and C.J. Watson each chipped in with 13 points apiece. The Raptors used a balanced effort on the offensive end during the first quarter. Five players scored at least four points and they held the Pacers to 29 percent shooting, leading 28-20 after 12 minutes. Williams gave Toronto a jolt off the bench, scoring 12 points in the second quarter and helping extend its lead at the break. Roy Hibberts jumper with 3:13 left in the second cut the Indiana deficit to 53-42. Neither team scored the rest of the way as the 11-point margin remained at halftime. A quick 9-2 spurt for the Pacers cut the deficit to 60-55 less than four minutes into the third. The Raptors stretched the lead to 80-72 entering the fourth. Toronto put the game away early in the fourth as Johnsons tomahawk jam capped a 17-4 surge that increased the lead to 97-78 with 6 1/2 minutes left. BLACKHAWKS DOMINATE FLAMES, LOSE IN OT Despite outshooting the Calgary Flames 50 to 18, and out-shot-attempting the Flames 96 to 33, the Chicago Blackhawks lost 2-1 in overtime, with Flames C Mikael Backlund scoring the winner in the extra frame. Flames G Jonas Hiller turned aside 49 of 50 shots. It was the second time in the past year that Hiller has made 49 saves in a game, stopping 49 against the Kings on December 3, 2013 (a game which was ultimately an 18-round shootout loss). Since 2005-2006, there have been 51 regular-season games in which a goaltender has stopped at least 49 shots and Hiller has done it four times, tied with Roberto Luongo for the most instances of 49-plus saves in a game. Blackhawks LW Dan Carcillo had a stellar possession game, with 20 shot attempts for and two against (90.9%) when he was on the ice during 5-on-5 play. Blackhawks D Niklas Hjalmarsson (44 for, 10 against, 81.5%) was very successful in possession. Flames D T.J. Brodie led the club in ice time, with 27:04 and added an assist, giving him five points in five games to start the season. More: Blackhawks snipers Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane had nine and eight shot attempts, respectively, with no points to show for it…Flames defencemen Raphael Diaz and Kris Russell combined to have 12 of their shots blocked, with only making it to Blackhawks G Corey Crawford. BRUINS GRIND DOWN WINGS Boston outshot Detroit 39-20, controlling play on the way to a 3-2 shootout win at Joe Louis Arena. Bruins RW Reilly Smith scored Boston’s first goal, notched the deciding goal in the shootout and put up solid possession numbers (19 shot attempts for, 6 against, 76.0%). Boston’s top defence pairing of Zdeno Chara (24 shot attempts for, 7 against, 77.4%) and Dougie Hamilton (24 for, 6 against, 80.0%) dominated play, matched up primarily against Red Wings C Henrik Zetterberg (5 for, 21 against, 19.2%) and LW Johan Franzen (6 for, 20 against, 23.1%), with Gustav Nyquist and Justin Abdelkader splitting time on the other wing. More: Bruins C Chris Kelly and LW Brad Marchand both had assists and tied for the team lead with six shot attempts (5 SOG). COYOTES DRILL OILERS Coyotes LW MIkkel Boedker put up three goals and an assist as the Arizona Coyotes took a 7-4 win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Boedker is off to a nice start for the Coyotes, scoring in each of the first three games and generating 13 shots on goal. While scoring five goals in three games isn’t sustainable, if Boedker can generate more shots – last season’s 2.02 per game was his career high – then he should definitely be looking at the first 20-goal season of his career. Oilers LW Taylor Hall had two goals and an assist, generating a team-leading five shot attempts (4 SOG). Oilers G Ben Scrivens surrendered six goals on 29 shots (.793 SV%). With Viktor Fasth injured, the Oilers need Scrivens to be really good and soon. NEW ORLEANS -- As Anthony Davis trotted off the court and toward the locker room, fans gathered near the tunnel offered one more round of applause, some of them shouting their congratulations to Davis for receiving his first All-Star game nod. The 20-year-old Pelicans big man glanced up and smiled widely at the well-wishers -- a fitting end to a day he wont soon forget. Davis responded to his selection earlier in the day as a Western Conference All-Star with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and the New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 98-91 on Friday night. "Its great, man" Davis said. "Weve got to keep pushing. You cant get too happy -- but at the same time, youve got to enjoy it." Davis, who leads the NBA with an average of more than 3 blocks per game, is also making 20-point, 10-rebound outings look routine lately. Meanwhile, the Pelicans have won six of eight games despite being without two key players -- forward Ryan Anderson (herniated disk) and point guard Jure Holiday (fractured shin). "Were fighting," Davis said. "Were grinding each and every night and coming up with big-time wins." Davis narrowly missed being picked by coaches as a Western Conference All-Star reserve, but when Kobe Bryant was unable to play in the game because of his injured left knee, new NBA commissioner Adam Silver chose Davis as Bryants replacement. Then Davis turned in his 17th 20-point, 10-rebound game of the season before a national TV audience, replete with highlight-worthy alley-oop and putback dunks. In the pivotal fourth quarter, he grabbed seven rebounds and had his only blocked shot. "Its a great way to cap a day off, to be selected (as an All-star) early in the afternoon and then to play like that on national TV in front of the world," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. "Its pretty cool. Its a lot for a 20 year old who is just scratching the surface on what he can do." Eric Gordon scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half on an array of jumpers and explosive drives to help fuel New Orleans comeback. "I got up more shots in the second half," Gordon said. "Im always going too shoot a decent field goal percentage.ddddddddddddThe more shots I get up, the easier it is for me." Brian Roberts added 16 points, including a 22-foot pullup jumper to make it 96-91 with 22 seconds left, and the Pelicans made 13 of 20 shots in the fourth quarter, outscoring Minnesota 37-20 in the period. Kevin Love, returning from a one-game absence caused by neck stiffness, had 26 points and 19 rebounds for Minnesota. Corey Brewer added 16 points and Kevin Martin 15. Loves inside presence helped Minnesota build the largest lead of the game, at 12, in the third quarter. Love outrebounded the Pelicans as a team 8-5 and had nine points in the period, seven at the free throw line. His free throws in the final minute of the quarter made it 71-59 before Austin Rivers 11-foot floater pulled the Pelicans back to 10 points heading into the final period. "It was tough because I just came off of playing a number of physical games and I had been taking a beating. Im just trying to give this team all that I can," Love said. "But in the end, it wasnt enough." New Orleans still trailed by nine when J.J. Bareas fast-break layup made it 75-66. The play had Williams muttering to himself in disgust as he called timeout, and New Orleans responded. Gordons 18-foot pull-up jumper and a pair of 3s by Anthony Morrow fueled a 12-2 run. Gordon capped the surge with an explosive dribble drive past Brewer for a two-handed dunk. New Orleans gradually built its lead to seven. Ricky Rubio, who had 11 points, briefly cut it to 89-85 with a 3, but Morrows third 3 on as many attempts made it 92-85 and Minnesota did not get closer than three points after that. "Our decision making offensively wasnt very good," Minnesota coach Rick Adelman said. "I dont think we played well together. Everyone was trying to do it for themselves. ... We have to find a way to trust each other better than that." NOTES: Love was 14 for 17 from the free throw line. ... F Luke Babbitt made his debut for the Pelicans in the second quarter and hit a 3 soon after checking in and finished with five points in 19:29, including a clutch tip-in of Davis miss late in the fourth quarter. PORTLAND, Ore. - With no picks in this years NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers still made news in offering All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge a maximum contract extension. The offer was confirmed Thursday by a person close to the negotiations who could not comment publicly because the team had not formally announced it. The offer, made to Aldridges representatives last week, was first reported by Yahoo! Sports. Aldridge, in the fifth and final year of a $65 million contract, is set to become a free agent next summer. The Blazers hope to lure him to stay with a five-year, $108 million extension. Aldridge averaged a career-best 23.2 points and 11.1 rebounds last season for the Blazers, who went 54-28 and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals before losing to eventual NBA champion San Antonio. The move does not come as a surprise after general manager Neil Olshey emphasized the importance of getting the deal with Aldridge done. "The most important thing is everybody, including LaMarcus, knows hes the number one priority in the organization right now," Olshey said when the season ended. There was talk last summer that Aldridge was interested in entertaining other offers, but as the season drew to a close he said several times that he was happy in Portland. The Blazers have been known in recent years to pull off draft night surprises, but the team was quiet with no picks this season. It was the third time that the Blazers had gone without a selection, but first since 1999. The team surrendered its picks in this years draft because of earlier trades. The No. 24 overall pick went to the Charlotte Hornets as part of a 2011 trade that brought Gerald Wallace to Portland. The No. 56 pick went to the Denver Nuggets in the 2011 trade that sent Andre Miller to the Nuggets. Vapormax 2019 Uomo . THE MICHAEL JORDAN FLU GAME First this famous basketball moment. Will the critics finally be silenced? Whats next? Heres what we learned after Conor McGregor created history by adding Eddie Alvarezs lightweight title to his existing featherweight prize. McGregor KOs Alvarez Second world title win on New York City debut How does McGregors achievement compare?A legion of cage legends have not even attempted to make the gargantuan leap into a second weight category, much less challenge the No 1 fighter from the division above. In rolling the dice and staggeringly hitting the jackpot, McGregor has gone above and beyond the landmark achievements of Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva or Jon Jones. McGregor has not defended either of his belts, unlike that esteemed trio of UFC greats, so that must be taken into consideration. But equally, in measuring McGregors bravery to jump up by 10lbs, it must be noted that St-Pierre, Silva and Jones never considered it wise to embark on a meaningful run outside of the safe-haven divisions that they owned.BJ Penn and Randy Couture held UFC titles in two weight divisions at separate times but McGregor has even trumped them by wearing gold on each shoulder. To have done so within the space of a year (and finding time to fit in a double-header against Nate Diaz at welterweight, a third weight division) is an accomplishment at the forefront of anything that any UFC fighter could boast.Isnt McGregor supposed to struggle against wrestlers? The perceived method of defeating McGregor (take him down, hold him down) received another slap in the face as Alvarezs accomplished wrestling credentials failed to impose themselves. Its not the first time McGregor has beaten a wrestler so will this theory crumble, as Alvarez did? The first time the Irishman overcame the grappling acumen of an American opponent, his victim was Chad Mendes in the summer of 2015, yet critics refused to shy away. Mendes was a last-ditch replacement for the injured Jose Aldo and, although he successfully dragged McGregor to the canvas for extended periods, eventually succumbed to a knockout. The short-notice arrangement of that fight meant McGregor was castigated in some quarters for benefiting from Mendes lack of fitness. This time around, nullifying Alvarezs take-downs must carry more weight. Alvarez enjoyed a full training camp of planning how to put McGregor on his back yet never came close to doing so.The snake-hips and constant threat of a counter-punch from the featherweight champion means he is becoming an increasingly difficult target to wrestle to the ground. Why has nobody found an answer for his trademark punch? The vicious left fist of McGregor - the same weapon that yielded his first UFC title, and previously dragged him up the ladder of contenders - accounted for the durable Alvarez. They know its coming, but they cant get out of the way. A skilled puncher who stands southpaw is a rare commodity in the world of MMA so McGregors stance has a uniqueness that is even more pronounced than it would be inside a boxing ring. The left hand is almost always delivered perfectly straight (he doesnt often throw hooks or uppercuts) and comes from an angle that opponent after opponent has found too difficult to suss. It possesses a power which means that one strike can befuddle the victim - Alvarez was never the same after surviving the first knock-down - meaning a repeat becomes likelier and likelier. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. But the real key behind McGregors punching style, honed in Irish boxing gyms before he ever removed his shoes to step into a cage, is his unrivalled accuracy. Alvarez has made a career of throwing wide, powerful hooks (thats how he dethroned Rafael dos Anjos to become champion) but they are energy-sapping efforts that infrequently find the perfect home. McGregor throws short and straight, and nobody yet has found an escape route. Can McGregor box? Exclusive investigation into his boxing credentials Is McGregor the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world? The official rankings before Saturday night had McGregor fourth - behind No 3 Daniel Cormier, second-placed Dominick Cruz and top dog Demetrious Mighty Mouse Johnson. Can any of that trio claim to be better than McGregor now that he is a two-weight champion?McGregors sole UFC defeat to Nate Diaz must come into play here, because it represents an imperfect resume. However, light-heavyweight champion Cormier has also lost to Jon Jones so McGregor must automatically leapfrog him, at the very least. Cruz and Johnson, the bantamweight and flyweight champions respectively, are a sensational duo who arent automatically demoted due to McGregors increasing brilliance. They have fought each other, with Cruz winning, so Johnson also has one UFC blemish on his record. The pair are masters of their craft who blend all aspects of the sport seamlessly while rarely taking damage, but neither have put a run together that compares to McGregors. The looming return of Jones, the exiled former light-heavyweight champion, adds to the competition for the fantasy No 1 spot but he cant be considered until his suspension ends. As it stands, the argument for keeping McGregor off the top spot has dwindled to sheer bias. When will he be back?Another fascinating layer of intrigue surrounding the Irishmans story is how frequently we see him inside the cage. He has managed to fit 10 fights into a mere three-and-a-half year UFC stint, including turning around from his Diaz defeat within five short months. He still rushed back, the prospect of creating history in New York City proving too tempting.Yet a post-fight announcement that his girlfriend is expecting their first child (imagine the ferocity of a mini-McGregor running around in a couple of decades) implies that Conor Sr is approaching his first major break since his remarkable takeover began. Watch Conor McGregors post-fight press conference He has already indicated that a potential return could be as far more than a mere fighter. McGregor, fully aware of his status as the UFCs most popular star, has indicated that the companys new owners must invite him into the boardroom if they want to appease his ambition. People have shares in the company, celebrities. Conan OBrien owns the UFC nowadays, so where is my share? Where is my equity? If Im the one thats bringing this. I mean, theyve got to come talk to me now, thats all I know. McGregor: I want my UFC stake Star has demanded a share of the UFC ownership Ive got both belts, a chunk of money, a little family on the way. If you want me to stick around and you want me to keep doing what Im doing, lets talk. But I want ownership, I want equal share, I want what I deserve, I want what Ive earned. His grand plan would represent a breakthrough in what any sportsperson has ever been capable of, yet is remains a pipe-dream. But there is uncertainty regarding wholl be under centre for Edmonton.Reilly was the starter for all 12 of Edmontons victories this season but there are reports he suffered a broken bone in his foot during the Eskimos 37-3 win over the B.C. Lions on Nov. 1.Reilly didnt play in Edmontons 24-17 loss to Saskatchewan on Saturday as the club had already clinched second place in the West. Third-stringer Pat White suffered a head injury in the game and is also questionable for this weekend. If the six-foot-three 230-pound Reilly cant play, Matt Nichols will start for Edmonton. Nichols is a five-year CFL veteran but 0-3 as a starter this season.Eskimos GM Ed Hervey was unavailable for comment Tuesday. On Monday, he told Edmonton radio station 630 CHED that the club was still gathering medical information on Reilly but, We do have reason to be concerned. The Eskimos were off Monday and Tuesday and are scheduled to resume practising Wednesday.Matt Scott was Edmontons third-string quarterback against Saskatchewan. If neither Reilly nor White can play Sunday, the Eskimos will have to find a new No. 3 behind Scott.Reilly threw for 3,327 yards and 16 TDs this season, completing 64.6 per cent of his attempts with 11 interceptions. Reilly was also the leagues top-rushing quarterback with 616 yards (7.8-yard average) and eight touchdowns.Nichols had a 62.3 per cent completion average (94-of-151) for 1,014 yards but threw more interceptions (five) than TDs (four). He also ran for just 41 yards on 16 attempts (2.6-yard average) with two touchdowns.Edmonton isnt the only team with quarterback issues. The Saskatchewan Roughriders have begun their playoff preparations unsure whether incumbent Darian Durant or veteran Kerry Joseph will start in Edmonton. Durant hasnt played since Sept. 7 after suffering an elbow injury in a 30-24 win over Winnipeg.Saskatchewan was 8-2 with Durant in the lineup but just 2-6 without him as Joseph was the starter in Saturdays win. Durant was recently cleared to return to practice.Head coach Corey Chamblin expects the star pivot to be on the Riders 46-man roster but will wait until Thursday to decide Durants status for the playoff game. Chamblin said a best-case scenario would be too have both Durant and Joseph available to play against Edmonton.dddddddddddd.I think having those guys in either order is good, Chamblin told reporters. And if one of the guys starts to struggle a bit then we have something to go from there.Thats the thought right now. Hopefully it gets to that point because theyre our two strongest quarterbacks and theyre both starting quarterbacks and have a lot of experience.Experience would certainly be an asset for the Riders, who face the Eskimos for the third time since Oct. 19. Edmonton won two of the meetings but the defending Grey Cup champions halted a five-game losing streak Saturday.I think it comes down to how your roster is set, Chamblin said. Whats your personnel, who is playing, who is not playing? Both teams will come with (new) wrinkles and if you can survive their wrinkles and be stout (against their attack), then that team will win.Theres also quarterback news in the East Division semifinal involving B.C. and the Montreal Alouettes. The Lions have placed veteran Travis Lulay on their 46-man roster, allowing him to resume practising.Lulay, who guided B.C. to the 11 Grey Cup title, re-injured his right shoulder Sept. 5 in a win over Ottawa. It was Lulays first start in almost a year after returning from a right shoulder injury that sidelined him last season.Lulays status for Sundays game will be determined on how he practises but the expectation is Kevin Glenn, who started the Lions other 17 games, will take the snaps in Montreal.Glenn was the CFLs second-leading passer this season with 3,918 yards — Ricky Ray of the Toronto Argonauts led with 4,595 yards — and completed 63 per cent of his attempts. He threw 17 touchdowns but also a league-high 17 interceptions. The Lions head into the playoffs having dropped two straight games. Theyve been outscored 70-19 and allowed 1,028 combined yards over that span.B.C. (9-9) finished fourth in the West Division but assumed the third playoff seed in the East after posting a better record than Toronto (8-10), the third-place finisher. Montreal (9-9) finished tied atop the division with Hamilton (9-9) and although the teams split a pair of games, the Ticats secured first place based on scoring more points against the Als in their head-to-head series.Montreal is the only semifinalist without quarterback issues. Jonathan Crompton is 8-2 as a starter for the Alouettes, who are coming off a 29-15 road loss to Hamilton on Saturday that relegated them to second in the East. ' ' '
SEATTLE -- Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon has run out of superlatives to describe Felix Hernandez. The Mariners ace allowed just one hit over eight innings while striking out nine, and Robinson Cano backed him with a two-run homer as Seattle earned a 3-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. "Felix is great. I dont have the adjectives to explain it anymore. Its just unbelievable," McClendon said. Hernandez allowed just Lonnie Chisenhalls single in the fifth inning and walked three in picking up his 10th victory of the season. It was Hernandezs ninth consecutive start where he has pitched at least seven innings and allowed two or fewer runs. During that stretch he is 6-1 with a 1.30 ERA. He struck out 77 while walking only 10. His 2.10 ERA is now tied with Masahiro Tanaka of the New York Yankees for best in the American League. "I think they were sitting on my changeup with two strikes. We struck out a lot of people with the fastball," Hernandez said. "The command of the fastball was really good. Mixed it up with my breaking ball for a strike and changeup was good, too." Its the first one-hitter thrown by the Mariners since Hernandez and Steve Delabar combined to one-hit the Minnesota Twins on May 5, 2012. It was the first time Cleveland had been held to just one hit since July 27, 2011, against the Los Angeles Angels. "He threw his breaking ball and his changeup early in the count and was able to throw that fastball late," Seattle catcher Mike Zunino said. "Its just tough when youve got four pitches and guys have to respect it, youre not always going to pick right. Hes doing a good job of mixing up and then making the pitch, too." Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 23rd save. The Mariners failed to take advantage early after loading the bases in the first inning against Cleveland starter T.J. House. After a leadoff single from Willie Bloomquist, Cano reached on an error by first baseman Nick Swisher while attempting to complete a double play. Kyle Seager singled and Zunino walked to load the bases, but House struck out Logan Morrison to get out of the jam. Hernandez didnt allow a hit through the first four innings, with a walk to Michael Brantley giving Cleveland its only baserunner. House (0-2) settled in as well, retiring 13 of the next 14 batters he faced to keep the game scoreless into the fifth inning. Chisenhall led off the fifth with a chopper back through the middle of the infield for Clevelands only hit. Carlos Santana would be the only runner Hernandez allowed to reach second base. Santana walked and advanced on a fielders choice in the sixth. "If (Cano) makes a spectacular play right there, its a no-hitter against us," Chisenhall said. "Fortunately, he didnt. We werent able to get anything going." Michael Saunders led off the sixth with a chopper that House fielded, but he threw wide of first base up the right field line and Saunders advanced to third on the error. Cano then snapped an 0-for-14 skid with a two-run shot to right that gave the Mariners a 2-0 lead. "I was looking for a pitch that I can at least hit out of the infield," Cano said. "Especially in that situation, no outs, thats what you want. Especially with (Hernandez) on the mound you just want to be able to do your job, especially when youve got men in scoring position." Cano singled to lead off the eighth and scored on a single from Zunino to give the Mariners an insurance run. Wigan forward Will Grigg has been included in Michael ONeills final 23-man Northern Ireland squad for Euro 2016. The 24-year-old, who scored his first international goal in Northern Irelands 3-0 victory over Belarus on Friday, is joined in the squad notably by Milton Keynes Dons right-back Lee Hodson and Doncaster Rovers centre-back Luke McCullough. Grigg scored 28 times in 43 appearances in all competitions this season to help Wigan win the Sky Bet League One title. However Liam Boyce (Ross County), Billy McKay (Dundee United), Daniel Lafferty (Burnley), Ben Reeves (Milton Keynes Dons) and Michael Smith (Peterborough United) all miss out. Grigg scored 28 times for Wigan during the 2015-16 season Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll, at 38, is the oldest player named in the squad by ONeill, while Aaron Hughes, who is on 99 caps, is also included. When asked about the selection of Grigg, ONeill told Sky Sports News HQ: At the end of the day, weve got a player that scored 28 goals this season and his club have been promoted to the Championship.I think it would have been wrong to ignore the season that he has had and we saw it continue last night. We put him on the pitch for half-an-hour and he popped up with his first international goal.He is a player in a good place at the moment and can have an impact at the tournament.ONeill also spoke about the difficulty of reducing his squad from 28 to 23 players for the finals in France. Its difficult, maybe its more difficult because youve got a smaller bunch of players to choose from as its a little bit more personal in terms of leaving players out, he added. Michael ONeill admits he had to make some difficult decisions regarding his final 23-man squad I had to let the lads know, the five lads that were with us in the training camp, earlier in the week and it was difficult. They all probably deserved to go there. For the tournament we have to be a bit more stringent with the numbers and there were a few tough decisions. The players, to be honest, were great and I have to commend them on that and I think they understood why I had made those decisions.Northern Ireland Euro 2016 squadGoalkeepers: Roy Carroll, Michael McGovern, Alan Mannus.Defenders: Jonny Evans, Gareth McAuley, Craig Cathcart, Conor McLaughlin, Shane Ferguson, Lee Hodson, Luke McCullough, Aaron Hughes. OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Clippers made a silent protest against owner Donald Sterling before Game 4 of their Western Conference playoff series against Golden State. The Warriors made a different kind of statement during the game. And just like that, a series pulled into a race-related scandal took another twist. Stephen Curry made a career playoff-high seven 3-pointers and scored 33 points, leading the Warriors past the Clippers 118-97 on Sunday to even their first-round series at two games apiece. "We wanted to come out and focus on all the work weve put in over the summer, throughout the course of the season to get ready for this moment in the playoffs and just have fun and enjoy it -- not let one person ruin it for everybody," Curry said. The game almost became an afterthought -- until tipoff anyway -- after an audio recording was posted Saturday online by TMZ purportedly of Sterling making comments urging a woman to not bring black people to his teams games. The alleged comments, which are under investigation by the NBA, have set off reactions of anger and calls for action through the league. Clippers players made a silent protest against Sterling by shedding their warm-up jerseys and going through the pregame routine with their red shirts on inside out. They also wore black bands on their wrists or arms and black socks in a show of solidarity. Clippers coach Doc Rivers said he knew what his players had planned but didnt voice his opinion. He said he wasnt thrilled about the demonstration, though he didnt elaborate why. Curry and company did a better job focusing from the start. The All-Star guard made his first five 3s to give Golden State a 20-point lead in the first quarter that held up most of the way. Curry shot 10 for 20 from the floor, including 7 of 14 from beyond the arc, and had seven assists and seven rebounds to help the Warriors snap a two-game losing skid. "I just thought they were the tougher team and it wasnt even close. Should have been a first round knockout," Rivers said. Golden State outshot Los Angeles 55.4 to 42.9 per cent. The Clippers had 19 turnovers, while the Warriors had a series-low 15 turnovers. Both coaches and players agreed that Sterlings purported comments affected their preparation, and neither side believed it was a determining factor in the outcome. "I think both teams were somewhat bothered by what has taken place the last 24 hours," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "But my guys just played with great energy, great effort." Rivers blamed himself for not getting his players ready. "Im not going to deny that we had other stuff," he said. "I just believe when the game starts, the gamme starts and nobody cares anymore.dddddddddddd Golden State surely didnt care." Game 5 is Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Andre Iguodala added 22 points and nine assists, and David Lee, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes each scored 15 as the Warriors went to a smaller lineup to regain their shooting touch in front of a roaring, gold-shirt wearing sellout crowd of 19,596 that stood after every swish. "It just all came together," said Iguodala, who also had nine assists and four rebounds. Jamal Crawford scored 26 points, and Blake Griffin had 21 points and six rebounds for a Clippers team wrapped up in the most talked-about topic in sports. "Maybe our focus wasnt in the right place would be the easiest way to say it," Clippers guard J.J. Redick said. New NBA Commissioner Adam Silver attended the game and met privately with former All-Star guard and current Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is advising the players union on the Sterling situation. Johnson even held a news conference during halftime that spilled well into the third quarter. Silver has said he hopes for a quick resolution after the league investigates, and that Sterling has already agreed not to attend Game 5. Johnson said the players trust Silver and are hoping for a quick resolution -- and the harshest penalty possible if the audio recording is authenticated. Once the ball was thrown up and the crowd roared, the Warriors quickly put the Clippers in a hole they could never recover from. Currys five 3-pointers in the first quarter tied a franchise-playoff record for a quarter, matching a mark he and Thompson set last year. Golden State led by 20 in the first quarter, 23 in the second quarter and 66-48 at the half. Jackson used a smaller lineup -- with power forward David Lee playing centre for long stretches instead of Jermaine ONeal, whom Jackson said requested the switch -- to spread the floor more than he had at any point in the series, which big man Andrew Bogut has missed with a fractured right rib. The Clippers never closed within single digits at any point in the second half. Curry kept on shooting -- and kept on hitting -- to send the series back to Los Angeles tied. And with so many in an uproar over Sterlings purported comments, theres no telling what the scene will be like at Staples Center. "Were going home now, and usually that would mean were going to our safe haven," Rivers said. "And I dont even know if thats true." NOTES: The Warriors have won 16 of their past 19 home games against the Clippers. ... Sterlings wife, Rochelle "Shelley" Sterling, sat in a courtside seat across from the Clippers bench. ' ' '

Greg Pateryn and Nick Tarnasky also scored for the Bulldogs (28-30-5). Dustin Tokarski made 28 saves. Michael Liambas and Taylor Beck had goals for the Admirals (29-21-12). Marek Mazanac stopped 22 shots in a losing effort. The Bulldogs enjoyed a dream start to Fridays game, snapping their 0-for-20 streak on the power play within the first five minutes. With Patrick Cehlin serving a minor penalty for hooking, Hamilton cycled the puck to the blue-line, where Nathan Beaulieu fired a high slap shot wide of the net. The puck took a hard bounce off the end boards and came to Bournival in the low slot, and he easily fired a wrist shot inside the near post at 5:23 of the first with Mazanac scrambling to regain position. The Bulldogs used another man advantage to double their lead at 8:05. Martin St. Pierre moved the puck to Pateryn at the right point, and the defenceman let go a rising wrist shot that moved through a screen and beat Mazanac over the far shoulder. The speed of Bournival ppaid dividends early in the second, as the winger drew a hook and was awarded a penalty shot at 8:09.dddddddddddd. He made the most of the opportunity, skating in quickly from the right wing and firing a low, heavy wrist shot that clipped Mazanacs far post on its way in. Milwaukee cut into its deficit through a well-worked passing play, as Mathieu Tousignant found Liambas with a centring pass from behind the goal line, and he snapped a one-time shot high and over the far shoulder of Tokarski at 12:02. But the Bulldogs struck back just over a minute later to restore their three-goal lead. After gathering a pass from Pateryn in the low slot, Tarnasky turned, fought off a defender and slid the puck through the legs of Mazanac at 13:46 of the second period. Two penalties at the same stoppage of play gave the Admirals a full two minutes to work with a 5-on-3 advantage, but they needed only seconds to score. Taylor Beck gathered the puck at the right wing and fired a hard wrist shot off Tokarskis near post and into the net at 14:53, seven seconds into the penalty. Hamilton was 2 for 7 on the power play, while Milwaukee was 1 for 6. ' ' '
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Seattles Richard Sherman may have more to do this time against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers didnt throw in the Pro Bowl cornerbacks direction when the teams met in the season opener in September, a 36-16 win for the Seahawks. The game plan for the rematch on Sunday in the NFC title game is still in flux. Still, the offence seems better equipped this time around to face Sherman and Seattles swarming defence.I dont think anybodys intimidated. I mean hes a great player, tight end Andrew Quarless said this week. Their secondary is definitely a great secondary. Youve got to give them their respect. But you know the whole Legion of Boom — well see.More than four months have passed since that meeting. It is plenty of time for teams to shape their identities and fix flaws.Seattle has only improved defensively since September. But the Packers have had plenty of time, too, to get their act together.Running back Eddie Lacys production has increased dramatically. Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb are one of the top receiving tandems in the league. The offensive line is providing solid blocking. And Aaron Rodgers has proven that hes better than most healthy quarterbacks in the league, even when slowed by a left calf injury.I dont think its that much different except their guys are coming through, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. Theyve grown with their season and theyre at the top of their game.It wasnt quite that case on Sept. 4 in Seattle.Packers coach Mike McCarthy watched video of the game on Monday morning. He liked some of what he saw. He pointed to a few pivotal plays during which the Packers could have played better. As far as not throwing at Richard Sherman, we have great respect for their defence, and theyve earned that, and no different in Richards individual case, McCarthy said. But were a no-huddle offence and my thought was, and I told Jordy in the game plan, Just line up on the left side. The thinking was that Sherman would follow Nelson.OK. It didnt happen ... How the game sorted out and things like that, and the ball went where it went was just really how the game was played. There was never a Dont throw right in the game plan, McCarthy added. With that, I think weve played a lot differently since then, I think weve improved in a number of different areas. The Packers have succeeded in the second half of the season in part by going after an opponents strengths. In a 26-21 win over New England in November, Rodgers threw for 368 yards, including a 45-yard catch-and-run to Nelson. He had been covered by top cornerback Darrelle Revis at the time.In the regular-season finale, Green Bay ran for 152 yards in a victory against Detroit, a season-high by a Lions opponent. In the NFC divisional round win over Dallas, the Packers got three touchdown passes from Rodgers — though none went to Nelson or Cobb. Instead, rookie receiver Davante Adams, and tight ends Andrew Quarless and Richard Rodgers, another rookie, had the scores in the big spots. All three games were played at Lambeau Field. Still, the success will help boost confidence.I mean the more targets A-Rod has, the more I think it opens up the offence, Quarless said. Its about keeping them honest, really respecting everything that we do, and respecting all the playmakers on the field.Adams had the biggest impact of the lesser-known Packers with seven catches for 117 yards. The production was somewhat of a surprise given Adams had a combined four catches in his previous four games combined. As it turns out, Adams doesnt mind talking trash either, a quality that might come in handy if Sherman throws some verbal jabs.I like to egg it on. If you want to talk, I feel like you can use that to your advantage because guys get to talking and you make a play on them and it kind of shuts them down, Adams said.___AP NFL website: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___AP Sports Writer Tim Booth in Seattle contributed to this report.
